Clinic Philosophy

Our Philosophy, Cosmetic Surgery Clinic

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we realise that any surgery and procedure can generate bothersome thoughts and lead to anxiety for a period of time after the operation. As an efficient but relatively small cosmetic surgery clinic we also realise these events can be frustrating particularly if access to the original surgeon is difficult. At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we do not believe your relationship with your surgeon ends once the operation is finished. We offer a personalised and comprehensive aftercare and follow up policy including postoperative checkups and hopefully a lifelong relationship with your surgeon.

Moreover, in comparison to large chains of clinic or clinics abroad, our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, does not involve any middle-person and your initial consultation will not be screened by an advisor or salesperson. We are also aware that many organisations and individual persons are aggressively marketing in the Media and particularly on the Internet and Search Engines to direct people to specific clinics with which they have financial arrangements and incentives (acting as a middle-person) without paying much attention to their cosmetic needs.

However, we see your cosmetic needs similar to your family doctor who is looking after your general health and wellbeing and therefore we take responsibility for your cosmetic requirements and look forward to having a long-term relationship with you. We do not 'pass you on' to another surgeon or another person in whom we have no confidence and your wellbeing and welfare will always be our main priority.

We also undertake that your surgery will be performed by UK-based doctors who are fully registered with the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom and are Fellows of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS) and we also undertake to offer you a very accessible and comprehensive aftercare.

Local Anaesthesia

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we perform our surgeries as Day Case Surgery under local anaesthesia, very similar to a visit to the dentist. This method is safe and compared to general anaesthesia has the added benefit of being able to walk away straight after the procedure. At the time of surgery, we prepare our local anaesthetic solution with a mixture of local anaesthetic agent such as lignocaine and a small amount of the drug which mainly acts on narrowing the blood vessels to prevent bleeding (adrenaline) together with bicarbonate to reduce pain at the site of injection. These drugs are used in predetermined and precise quantities which make the area of the operation numb (anaesthetised) with minimal local and general side-effects.

The injection of this solution will provide anaesthesia during and for some time after surgery and reduces the extent of bruising and any bleeding during and after the surgery. The technique is in common use by many plastic surgeons all over the world and is very safe and effective and sometimes it is combined with the use of a sedative drug which also induces a light sleep during the operation.

Pain and Discomfort

What do you mean by "pain" and "discomfort"?

Interpretation of 'pain' and 'discomfort' by individuals is a 'subjective feeling', therefore, when you complain about pain, nobody could reliably identify with you unless they have been through the same unpleasant experience themselves. Despite this, it is also known that the reaction to pain, discomfort and other senses is expressed differently by each individual person in different settings.

Furthermore, it is also known that perception and interpretation of our feelings and senses such as touch, vision, hearing and smell as well as pain and discomfort are expressed differently by each person and our reaction to these senses is quite unpredictable. There are other well-known factors which play a part in our perception of our senses, for example, age, gender, past experience, personal perceptions and health beliefs, race, cultural and ethnic background and psychological factors are powerful contributors in our sensitivity and perception of our feelings for pain. It is clear that when you complain of pain, even your doctor's empathisation could not determine the extent of understanding or identify with you and your unpleasant feeling in that situation. At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we do our best to prevent any pain and discomfort and we carry out our surgical procedures under local anaesthesia.
