Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a derivative of chemicals produced by Clostridium botulinum Welchii bacteria. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it reversibly stops the chemical messages from the nerve to the muscle, therefore, reversibly weakening and relaxing the muscles and softening the skin wrinkles.

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we always use high quality products from only reliable sources. We normally use Botox (Allergan); but occasionally we also use Dysport (Ipsen Biopharm).

Is there anything I should do before the Botox injection?

No, but if you are taking any medication or you have any health problems you should bring it to the attention of the doctor. At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, you will have a consultation with a trained and highly qualified doctor who is also fully registered with the GMC in the United Kingdom before your Botox injection. Once you are in the clinic for the injection, we apply local anaesthetic cream to numb the area.

What is the cosmetic use of Botox in your clinic?

Botox is most effective for reducing wrinkles in the upper third of the face:

  • The forehead
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow's feet
  • Around the eyes. At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we also use Botox for the treatment of excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis).

    Is one Botox treatment enough?

Often, good cosmetic results might be obtained after a single treatment of Botox for at least two months. However, the aim of Botox therapy is to make some improvement in the wrinkles rather than perfect results and complete abolishment of lines and wrinkles. In practice, often a combination of other cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers is required for a satisfactory cosmetic outcome.

    Is Botox painful?

Botox is injected with a very fine needle by an experienced and trained doctor. Although we apply a local anaesthetic cream to numb the area, some people find that the injections cause only mild discomfort.

What are the possible side-effects of Botox injection?

Botox is used in relatively small amounts in cosmetic treatment, therefore, side effects are very rare. However, there might be a slight redness and swelling which usually subsides within 24 hours. There are other rare adverse effects such as: headaches, very rarely temporary drooping of the eyebrow, double-vision and watering eyes may occur. It is also known that very rarely patients might develop antibodies or allergies to Botox.

    Is Botox safe to use?

Botox is safe in experienced hands and its usage in cosmetic treatment has been proven with consistent safety records for more than 20 years. We will discuss the pros and cons of each method at the time of your initial consultation with the doctor.

Is there anything I should do after the Botox injection?

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we routinely supply you with a post-injection information sheet including 24 hour contact details of the doctor so, if there are any worries, you can contact the doctor. We also offer a copy of your consent form if you want it for your own records.

    How much does Botox cost?

We believe that we are one of the most competitive Botox providers in the country (please see Our Price Commitment) and we can match any other price offered by a doctor in the United Kingdom.

  • Full Face (the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, crow's feet and around the eyes): £300. This price also includes, where indicated, a review appointment at 2-4 weeks after treatment with a possible top up.
  • The minimum charge is £200 for any Botox treatment and we run special deals for parties of 2 or more people who are willing to be treated at the same time.
