DeaLight Intensive Pulsed Light (IPL)

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we use Dealight Intensive Pulsed Light (IPL) for the treatment of many skin conditions including:

  • Unwanted hairs - in most hair and skin types, anywhere on the body (except for white hair).
  • Ingrown hair, folliculitis, razor bumps - as well as the associated skin darkening and pimples.
  • Rosacea
  • Facial blood vessels and haemangiomas.
  • Freckles and skin darkening
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Wrinkles
  • Scars - elevated and depressed
  • Acne
  • Tattoos

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we assess your skin problems and many skin imperfections can be treated by the Intense Pulsed Light Technology. The new Dealight Intense Pulsed Light has been developed according to newest scientific research results in Intense Pulsed Light Technology. It is a non-coherent laser. Dealight produces a broad spectrum of light in a range of wavelengths as opposed to conventional lasers which emit a fixed wavelength.

    Before After
    Before After

At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we select the wavelength, level of energy and length of exposure to best target the appropriate hair follicles, with minimum damage to the surrounding tissue. Whilst absorbing the Dealight Intense Pulsed Light technology, the follicles are heated and damaged which results in epilation (hair removal). As the operator can make many adjustments to the levels of energy emitted from the Dealight Intense Pulsed Light system there can be a great amount of flexibility of treatment, therefore personalising the therapy and keeping side effects to a minimum. The technology can be used for other skin conditions too, but the principle of light therapy is quite the same, the light energy is absorbed by the melanin or haemoglobin in the skin and converted to heat to deliver the desired effect on the target cells.

Although Dealight can be used for a number of skin conditions, it is commonly used for Hair Removal. We have considered the most frequently asked questions on hair removal below.

    What is IPL Technology (Dealight)?

Dealight offers a gentle and non-invasive removal of unwanted hair from any part of the body including from the face, legs, back and bikini line. Many hairs can successfully be removed with each light pulse. It has been safely used for many years.

Is Dealight Hair Removal the right treatment for my skin?

Even though Dealight Hair Removal Technology can treat any colour of hair on any skin colour (apart from white hairs), at consultation we will assess your suitability for the treatment and then we will be in a position to answer this question.

How do you remove hairs by Dealight IPL Technology?

As hair follicles are not lying far below the skin surface, when we treat the skin with Dealight IPL System, the light will be absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair. The discharged pulses light from Dealight IPL system will generate heat which damages the hair follicle without the surrounding tissue being damaged.

    Is Dealight Hair Removal painful?

Each pulse of light feels like a slight sting or pinch, similar to the snap of a rubber band and most people find the treatment comfortable without the need for local anaesthetic. The machine hand-piece generates a cooling effect, which reduces the pain and discomfort.

What should I expect during my Dealight hair removal procedure?

Long hairs above the skin will be trimmed first. Then the therapist will clean the skin. For your own safety, we will ask you to wear dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light pulses. Then flashed pulses of light are delivered to your skin by placing the Dealight hand-piece on the area of the skin which is going to be treated. We apply gel to cool the area. Over the next week or two the hairs in the treated area fall out. To finish the treatment, we occasionally apply Restore a desensitising lotion onto the skin.

What are the possible adverse effects of Dealight Hair Removal?

Although they are rare, one may notice redness and slight swelling at the site of treatment. These transient changes will disappear within a few hours. Very rarely, you could have some bruising or blistering, but this should quickly subside. Sometimes, after treatment, the skin can become lighter or darker but it should return to normal within weeks. Around the time of each treatment, you should try to limit the amount of time spent in the sun to reduce any complication. Immediately after treatment, one can resume work and other regular physical activities.

Are Dealight hair removal results satisfactory?

After each treatment of Dealight hair removal, there will be some permanent reduction in the hair follicles of skin in the treated area. At our cosmetic surgery clinic, Doctors Makeover, we customise your treatment and will estimate the number of treatments you need in order to fulfil the desired effects. Usually you should expect to have 5 to 8 treatments before full clearing occurs, this is because a hair follicle can only be damaged when in the growing stage.
